Our Policy

Referral Fees

Like most free-to-use platforms providing impartial, high quality information about personal finance and property, Housecure stays afloat by earning money from referral fees. We have a strict policy that ensures users are informed about who our partners are, how we earn money and why this is beneficial to all parties.

What is a referral fee?

Mortgage advisers, conveyancers, insurers, surveyors, removal services, broadband companies, electricity providers and almost any other consumer-facing business pays what's known as a referral fee to other companies (introducers) for earning them business. Introducers therefore earn money if one of their users decides to use the services of a company that pays a referral fee.

How Do Referral Fees Work?

Our platform helps users navigate their property transaction, with our focus being to help people save money, complete faster and experience less stress.

Every home mover needs access to service providers for the legal, financial and logistical aspects of their transaction. We find the best ones and choose them very carefully, so our users have access to great choices for their move.

The service providers on the app never pass the referral fee onto Housecure, so our users can be assured they pay the same price as going direct, if not cheaper. Plus, we only partner with highly rated companies, so your move is in the hands of experts, making it faster and less stressful.

If one of the home movers on our platform thinks that one of our 'excellent' rated partners would be beneficial to their transaction, they are able to instruct them from the app. At this point, once one of our users has become a customer of a partner, Housecure would be paid a referral fee.

Referral fees are paid because it costs money to provide information, apps and websites that demonstrate the need for a particular service. Because Housecure, like many other introducers, is free-to-use, it is the responsibility of paid service providers to front the cost. We ensure our users never pay more by choosing a service through us than they'd pay by going direct.

Our users greatly benefit from our referral relationships. Housecure is able to intervene if the need arises, which gives our users more protection than if they went directly.

Referral fees are paid so that these firms do not have to spend thousands of pounds on wasted marketing. By paying introducers, they get customers who genuinely need their services.

Housecure benefits because it is our only source of revenue. Not every service shown on the app pays a referral fee, and it will never affect how we present services on the site. If they're the best service provider, we'll display them anyway. This is the fairest way that we can earn money whilst giving access to the best services.

Yes, referral fees are 100% legal and very common. However, it is important that introducers (like Housecure) are fully honest about them. For example, estate agents will often try and pressure their customers into using their mortgage brokers or conveyancers without disclosing their referral relationship. This is illegal and highly unethical, so be sure to inform trading standards if this occurs.

Of course! We do make sure that our partners never pass on the referral fee for you to pay (it is paid out of the company's marketing budget), so you will always get the same price or cheaper than if you went to them directly. If you'd like to ensure we do not earn a referral fee, contact us with the service you'd like to instruct and we will happily assist you. Alternatively, you can contact a partner directly and when asked "How did you find our company?", simply do not mention us.

Housecure was built to give people less expensive, faster and more secure property transactions. Transparency, honesty and integrity are highly important values that contribute to this mission and we hold them in very high regard. In addition, we are FCA regulated, with our conveyancing partners being either CLC or SRA regulated. If we were dishonest about our referrals, we would be putting our regulation and our partners' at risk.

The amount we earn from referral fees is highly variable. For some services, it can be £200, and for others as little as £5. Because we still display the best service providers regardless of whether they pay us a referral fee or not, we sacrifice earning more money for the benefit of our users.
